USAU - FREE Observier Clinic in August

For those of you NOT on the NOUltimate Yahoo List:

USA Ultimate (USAU) will be offering a FREE Observer Clinic in August. For more details about what an observer is and what an observer does, go to http://www.usaultimate.org/resources/officiating/observers/.

To those interested in helping grow our wonderful sport, this is just one way of contributing. People attending the clinic could coordinate and carpool over to BR for the class.

Please read Hugh's e-mail below for further details about the clinic.

Think about it.

See y'all on the field!

NOLA Ultimate Community,

In effort to keep tournament costs down for Regionals events, USAU is trying to run clinics in areas where there are few certified Observers. The South is a prime target as it is a black hole when it comes to Observers. USAU is going to be running a clinic at the Heat Out tournament in Baton Rouge on August 27-28.

Please work all your contacts in the south to help get some people registered for this clinic. There is no charge to attend.

City-Cat 5 Scrimmage

Hi All,

A week or so ago, Mr. Daschbach suggested a scrimmage between Cat 5 and City Players. I'd like to offer a date for this event. Sunday, March 13 on the Tulane field. 11 AM. Come if you can!

Best,
Jasper

Category 5 Practice

Hi y'all,

We'll be practicing from 10-12 on Saturday at Tulane this week. This time around, we'll be focusing on dump cuts. It looks like it'll be a beautiful day: mid-50s and sunny. Hope to see you out there!

Jasper and Anthony

Category 5 - New Orleans Co-ed Club Team

NOLA Ultimate Krewe,

Our next practice is this coming Saturday (tomorrow) from 10-noon it will be held at Tulane that way the hungover Tulane ladies who had their tournament cancelled can still wake up relatively late and make it to practice on time. We will focus different cutting styles and how to make effective cuts in the offense that we are running this year. If you miss this you'll be a little lost for the rest of the year (we'll do our best to catch you up, but it's better if you just come out the first time around). After we learn the basics of the cutting styles we expect we'll try out our new skills on the field with a scrimmage.

It'll be cold (but not wet). Don't be a pansy. Be smart. Wear layers (yes you can wear gloves while warming up, no you cannot wear gloves while you are throwing (unless you are Drew because that is what you normally do and you want to be like Michael Jackson)). Jasper and I have planned a practice that will keep us moving so we'll stay warm. Just think of all the other ultimate teams in the country right now that aren't playing because of the weather (who says you can't play in snow and cold), we only keep our year-round advantage if we actually use it.

And as a penultimate note, at the team meeting to start the season, the team from last year pointed out that it would be important to keep track of attendance at practice as a way to determine who makes the final team in the fall and who is invited to play with us at tournaments throughout the year (from an aggressive recruiting campaign, there are ~90 people who have expressed some level of interest and we had to find some criterion that we could use to narrow the list down when it came to cuts and attendance was chosen). Last week was not a good start for most of us, so let's make this week better.

And finally, everyone is invited to practice with us at this point in the season, so if you know anyone that is interested feel free to pass the message on them.

So you want to be a thrower?

I had posted this on my blog and some peeps suggested that I place it here for the NO Frisbee Community. This is the first of a ten week program to transition Ultimate handlers to Ultimate Throwers. If you are interested in first becoming good enough to be considered a handler, spend six weeks working on the week 1 workout schedule. There will be videos and pics in the upcoming weeks.
